tried making english muffins...have been wanting to for months...
made the relatively healthy recipe from the La Brea Bakery book (lots of ingredients needed)...quite time consuming - good for a weekend when you are snowed in
resting before baking

resting after cutting (heavy sigh)
(I ran out of english muffin tins and used other round molds - but they stuck badly to everything but the english muffin tins)

cooling

look just like english muffins!! but more whole grain"y"...dont think they will keep well(better fresh) and think I made mine a bit too thin (the big ones)

and the batch from Martha's book:
this is the not-so-healthy, very tasty version (comparatively)...the two on the right are just freaky thick
.jpg)
found a great new baking book - LOVE it
made the fig bars
stewing the figs:
.jpg)
and of course forgot to photograph the puree, but it is just like fig newton filling...
out of the oven...
not perfect cause I rolled out the dough in advance and then did not let it come to room temp before trying to fold it...by the time I got to the last one (top) the dough was pliable and then I almost knocked the tray off its perch and had to stop its fall by smashing the perfect roll with my forearm

prepping last night (ie making lunch!)
ginger and jalapeno on the stove for the soba noodles with tofu, avocado and snow peas (I used green tea noodles and left out the snow peas)...make extra if this is your kind of thing - it was a huge hit, esp the ginger and jalapeno "pickles"

transporting to the whatever martha studio

lunch time!

salad "bar" with "japanese"/"miso happy" salad dressing (added basil and vidalia and ginger) - if you haven't tried this dressing you are missing out!! it is amazing...but the sweet white miso is hard to find this time of year...they will make more in the fall

things are oh so glam behind the scenes...footwear when no one is looking/can see and clips holding up pant legs

glazed lemon pound cake
before glaze:

after:

irish soda bread:

pretzels from donna hay

soft like the kind you buy on the street in nyc (minus the rat shit)

seem to be best the day they are made if you put salt on them since the salt attracts moisture and makes them a bit soggy (not too bad though)

sat visit to construction site
living room (looking towards dining "room")

looking towards kitchen

powder room almost complete

"kids" closet (no door - open to the curtain wall/windows facing north)

new york has been having a bizarre bout of perfect weather
