Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
Jennifer was really happy for Dr. Seuss until Alexis told her he was a Nazi.  It really upset Jennifer that he hates the Jews.  (Turns out he was an ANTI-nazi and did a lot of anti Nazi war posters.)  Roald Dahl, who wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and many others was an admitted anti-semite.

Wet wool sweater, damp day

It’s snowing in NY and Alexis is wearing a wool sweater that is itchy because it’s a little damp.  It’s really irritating.  Jennifer was home today because Long Island got about 10 inches of snow.  All the schools were closed and Keith’s office was closed, too.  They got a call last night before the snow even started to say that the schools were closed.

11-year old on Facebook

Jennifer was talking to another 11-year old on Facebook.  And again, she cut and pasted the conversation and sent it to the mother.  She felt like a narc by doing it but still thought it had to be done.  This girl had her home address on her facebook page so Jennifer felt that she needed to tell her to remove that immediately.  Alexis wonders how Jennifer has time to chat with all these children.  Maybe THAT is the problem.  Everyone does think it’s appropriate that Jennifer let the mother know about the conversation.

Wants the President to Fail
Rush Limbaugh is in the news today.  He made a blunder at the CPAC convention.  He’s mocked the president, saying he bastardized the constitution and then at the convention completely misquoted the constitution himself.  He also said that he hopes that Obama fails.  If you are a patriot, how can you wish that someone would fail?  As much as people hated Bush, people didn’t want the country and him to fail!  You hate him, but still hope that the country moves forward.  It’s so frustrating.

Missing Football Players

There are 4 football players that are missing out in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa.  Alexis doesn’t believe that they were wearing their life jackets.  Most people that go out on a speed boat do not wear life jackets – sailboats, yes, but speed boats no.  Jennifer watched part of Jaws this weekend and while the movie is dated, it’s so good.  Jennifer thought the shark was a little small and not really that scary.

Picked Last
Jennifer remembers being picked last for teams in high school.  For pretty much every game, she was picked last.  Chrissy and Paul had similar experiences.  Alexis thinks the whole process is horrible and really should be stopped.  There is no need for the kids to pick the team.  It’s so humiliating and it only hurts a few people.  And those few people never forget that feeling.   This conversation was brought on by the fact that Alexis is reading this book about kidnapping, but the element of being picked last was touched on as well.  It’s a fictional book and the older brother is kidnapped and killed.  It was a good book because, despite the ending, the family dynamic was very interesting.  The books are very hard to deal with, though, because it’s you can’t figure out what happened exactly or why it happened.  For example, in this book, how could this big football player bully guy get abducted?   Alexis can’t imagine how mind boggling it must be for the parents and the family.  They must absolutely lose their minds.  There is no way to get over it.  In the book, the parents get divorced and the mother helps people find missing children for the rest of her life.  It’s all she can do.  Mindy called to talk about how you deal with this sort of tragedy.  Her mother and aunt were stabbed to death by a gang in a beauty salon in her town in Illinois.  It was horrible and shocking and just should never  happen.  She goes and speaks to people in jails about what happened to try and show them the consequences of their actions.

Situations ‘in this economy’ that are creepy

Chrissy was on the subway this morning and had a weird incident.  She was on the train and it wasn’t very crowded.  All of a sudden, one guy moves from a chair with no one next to him to sit directly across from Chrissy.  She felt that was really weird but still stayed sitting where she was.  Then all of a sudden, another guy that was sitting across from her moved to the seat directly next to her.  That was really creepy.  Why are these people getting up and moving around the subway for no apparent reason – and moving from a less crowded area to a more crowded area.  So Chrissy just got up and stood by the door.  Her stop was next, but would have switched cars even if it wasn’t to get out of there.  If you feel creeped out, you should definitely move out of that situation.  You can’t be too careful.

Near Abductions
When Alexis was about 11 or 12, she was going to take a taxi from her mother’s store home out in the Hamptons.  She was told to wait outside for the cab, so when a sedan pulled up, she jumped into the back seat.  It wasn’t the cab though – it was just some random 17-year-old kid and he ended up driving her to her friend’s house.  Jennifer followed a guy into the woods when she was young (4-6 yrs old) with some friends and he made them all touch his penis.  It was horrible and she knew at the time that it was bad.  When she got home, there were cops there and she had to pick the guy out of the lineup.  She didn’t tell anyone what had happened though and at 18 years of age her mother mentioned it again and all those feelings were brought up again and she felt so guilty about the whole thing.  She had never dealt with it.  When Paul was 13, he was in Penn Station and some guy asked him for help to get to Port Authority because there was a duffel bag with money in a locker there and he didn’t know how to go.  Paul actually left Penn Station with him and walked for about 3 blocks and then realized he was going to miss his train so he left.  It didn’t occur to him to ask a cop to help the guy with the directions.  Luckily he left.

Weird Punishments
Rosario Dawson did an interview with the NY Times and would apparently get licked by her mother when she did something bad.  She was licked on the side of her face and in the armpits.  Sonia had to write sentences over and over.  If she forgot to put the napkins on the table, she had to write, “I will not forget to put napkins on the table” hundreds of times.  It was pages and pages and it was horrible.  Kim in Texas makes her kids brush her hair for 10 minutes.  Alexis thinks it’s a little weird because she’s afraid the kids will have some bizarre hatred for it and won’t be able to give that pleasure to someone else because of the negative associations with it.  Jennifer was pretty obnoxious at this camp in Switzerland over one summer.  She was about 15 at the time.  She also got in trouble at school – she would talk back to the teachers.  The camp called and said she wasn’t welcome back next summer.  And then the school called with another bad report.  Her dad walked her around the property and said that he better not get another call like that again.  She shaped up really quick after that.  Alexis felt that she was blamed for so many things that weren’t  her fault.  It wasn’t her fault that Martha ran out of gas.  (Apparently Alexis' attitude was so bad that Martha couldn’t tell the tank was on ‘e’.)  Laura had to lick a bar of soap when she said a bad word.  That taste lingers and drinking water only makes it worse!

Stay Tuned!
